Tri-Pres Junior Camp

Summer 2010

Dear Parents,

Tri-Pres Camp is coming up quickly.  Before you know it, you and your camper will be hauling sleeping bags and suitcases up the hill to find your camper’s home for a week.  You will be meeting the counselors, staff, and cabin-mates that will be sharing a week of growing and fun with your camper.  I am providing you with a lot of information that will be helpful to you in preparing for the week, so please read on.  The arrival time for all campers is 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 25. Please do not plan an early arrival because all the staff will be in a meeting until that time.  There will be no one available to greet you or care for your camper.  Please make arrangements for your child’s transportation to camp with people other than Tri-Pres Staff because there will be no supervision for campers during our staff meeting.  Check-in will begin at 5:00 and end at 6:00.  Our first camp meal together is at 6:00.  Our camp week will end promptly at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, July 30.  We will be served our last meal at noon.  Summit Lake requires that all Tri-Pres Staff leave the grounds by 2:00 so they can prepare for a weekend retreat.  Your prompt 1:00 arrival is vital.

It has been our practice to have all payments made prior to the first day of camp.  If there is a balance due for your family, Ashleigh will be sending an e-mail to you with that information.  Please do not put payments in the mail after July 18; you can make your final payment on July 25 at check-in, if that is helpful.  Refunds are not possible after July 18.

A popular feature of Tri-Pres is the canteen which is open during free time each afternoon.  Each camper may select two items each day from the array of snacks and drinks.  There is no additional cost to the camper for these items and camper cash is not needed for any part of our program.  Water is available to everyone at all times. Please do not send money.  All electronics such as cell phones, iPods, DVD players are prohibited at Tri-Pres Camp.  Please make sure your camper arrives without them.  Should you need to contact the camp, you may call 410-662-2437 and leave a message. Messages will be checked at 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. daily.  In the event of an emergency, you may call Summit Lake Camp office, and they will get a message to us. Their telephone number is 301-271-9810.  This number is for emergencies only!  Camper calls home are discouraged.  There are two primary reasons.  Our days are packed with adventures, and there is no time for every camper to call home.  It has been our experience over the many years we have been working with 4th, 5th, 6th graders that those who may be a bit homesick become more so when they call home.  Please be reassured that is a campers asks to call home, a member of the administrative staff will see to it that it happens.  Since this is just a five day camp, we discourage visits as well.

What is extremely helpful is mail!! …. Letters, cards, postcards, goodies, packages from home… are huge hits!  (No peanuts or items with peanut oil in care packages please)  We suggest that you start sending mail before your camper leaves home.  That way there is something for him or her to receive during mail call on Monday.  Continue to send something for each day if you wish.  If you mail something from home after Wednesday, your camper is likely to be home before it arrives at Summit Lake.  The Summit Lake mailing address is:

We are really excited to have Santo Garafalo to speak to us this year.  Santo is from New City Fellowship of Atlantic City, NJ.  He will be speaking on Wisdom from the book of Proverbs.  Many of the activities include some of our favorites such as, paddleboats, fishing, swimming, and our famous Tri-Pres Slide for Life.  And of course, we always have some surprises up our sleeves…  Oh yes, there will be surprises.  It is our hope and desire that our week will “reach and teach youth with the Gospel of Jesus Christ to better equip them to live their lives for Him.”  We are in prayer that the Lord will touch the lives of each of us during our week at Tri-Pres.  We hope that the Lord will bless us with a clearer understanding of who He is and what He is teaching us.  Please join us in prayer now as we are finishing registrations and plans.  And continue to pray during our week as we seek the Lord in the camp setting he has blessed us with. May He be glorified and praised in all that we do.

In Christ,

Chip Wilford
